Varekai

Cirque du Soleil logo imageVarekai which means "wherever" in the Romany language of the gypsies, the universal wanderers, is a Cirque du Soleil performance about the extraordinary. A lone man falls from the sky into this world called Varekai, deep into a forest at the peak of a volcano. Varekai pays tribute to the nomadic soul, celebrates the spirit and art of the circus tradition, and tells the absurd and extraordinary adventures in that place of pure and undiluted possibility permeated with fanciful creatures.

Varekai, which is a word from the Romany language which means "wherever," was conceptualized on the basis of mythology like many of the previous productions. The story is about the Greek myth of Icarus. The story picks up where the myth leaves off, telling the story of what happened to Icarus after he fell from the sky. He lands in the middle of a jungle at the base of a volcano where he must learn to fly again.
